It's a great summer for hockey!
Jul. 11th, 2007 08:36 pmLife is very good, if you're a Pittsburgh Penguins fan -- which, not-so-coincidentally, I am!
Over the last couple of weeks, the demi-gods of hockey (i.e., Ray Shero and his management staff) re-signed our two veteran leaders to one-year deals (Gary Roberts and Mark Recchi), drafted an 18-year-old prospect who had been ranked #1 worldwide the year before (Angelo Esposito), signed a couple of younger players to two-year contracts (Max Talbot, Erik Christensen), picked up a goalie (Dany Sabourin), a forward (Petr Sykora), and a defenseman (Darryl Sydor) on Free Agency Day, and signed our best defenseman (Ryan Whitney) to a six-year deal.
Then all that was topped off yesterday when Sidney Crosby signed a five-year extension.
*jumps for joy*
I'll be a quivering mass of jelly if they can come to terms with Colby Armstrong and negotiate a long-term extension for the lovely goaltender in my icon, both of which should happen in the next few weeks!
