I should be really depressed...

Early Saturday evening, my beloved computer ate itself. It's pretty serious; it's either a motherboard malfunction or a corrupted BIOS, since it won't even recognize my hard drives are installed. I cannot fix it myself, nor do I want to blow a wad of cash on repairing a three-year-old system.

I headed to BestBuy today to see if they had a cheap tower that would replace my CPU until my tax refund comes in, but sadly, my computer picked the wrong week to stop taking amphetamines. No place that sells computers has inventory available until Tuesday, when Microsoft Vista is released. (Aside to gibbsgirl: Yeah, I know, all of that wouldn't happen if I just bought Apple... :p)

So here I sit, posting from my father-in-law's system, wishing he had highspeed internet. I won't have net access until mid-week, and even then, I don't know if I'll have time to check my LJ. But I'll try.

I'm much better now than I was Saturday night/Sunday afternoon. Once I got home, tried booting without my storage drive, and got up and running, I was elated! Now I know it isn't a mobo or BIOS problem; it's my 80GB second hard drive which failed. It's nearly full, sadly, and almost none of it was backed up.

The saddest part? It's where I kept my fanfic -- both mine and everyone else's. At least the oldest stuff was backed up the last time I replaced the drive.
